My interest for wildlife, and birds in particular, started at a young age, but it needed a little something more to become a professional pursuit. That spark was photography, which I started in earnest in 2015, in Helsinki. Now I have turned my passion into a job, and from the Arctic tundra to the Southern Ocean, I go on adventures looking for beauty, strife and survival. From them, I draw stories about the natural world, its struggles and the effort a few brave souls put in to preserve it.
I am fascinated by the complexity of ecosystems, and the interactions between living beings. I firmly believe that all things have the right to grow, and I want to use my photography to defend fair and sustainable development, to have a positive impact on both wild and human life. This is why I document conservation stories and tell about them around the world. Seeing is believing, and I want people to believe wilderness is worth saving.
I love birds, and I love all birds. I have a passion for the “underbird”, the little drab-looking one from a remote corner of the world or the noisy city dweller that everyone hates. I know that all life on earth is affected by human choices, no matter where they live. I also know that people will have to accept wild species as neighbours, so I strive to tell their stories in the hope of birthing empathy and care. Conservation storytelling does not happen in a vacuum. I've been lucky to work with passionate conservationists, scientists and volunteers who dedicate their time to nature. Through my work, it's also their story I tell. The challenges they face and the hopes they share fuel my photography and motivate me to get better at it, so that I can do their effort justice and tell the world what's at stake. I love passing on the knowledge I’ve amassed to eager fellow image makers. I’m a relaxed and enthusiastic teacher, and I always aim to share moments of wildlife photography with people in an educational and accessible fashion, with a focus on ethical and creative photography (and no, they are not incompatible!). Whether you choose to join me on an excursion to Suomenlinna, the gem of Helsinki,, or for an online post-processing session, I can offer a fun and valuable experience.
My curious and adventurous spirit has brought me to explore many corners of the earth. I have lived in France, Turkey, Denmark and Finland. In addition, I spent one year travelling through New Zealand, learning about wildlife, natural history and conservation. It was an eye-opening endeavour that truly put me on track to become a photo reporter, as much of my ecological sensibility was born there, between volunteering for penguins, stories of extinction and school strikes for climate. I have also been lucky to explore Hungary, the Caribbean, Chile, British Columbia, Iceland, Norway, Turkey, Greece, India, Mauritius, Vanuatu and Queensland.
My images have been published in nature magazines Terre Sauvage (France), Suomen Luonto (Finland), and more. They have also received accolades in high-profile international competitions such as Bird Photographer of the Year and Emotion’ailes. In 2018, I was awarded an Enderby Trust Scholarship to join a cruise-expedition to the Subantarctic Islands of New Zealand and Australia. In 2023, I received a 1000€ grant from Finnfoto to produce a reportage on Saimaa ringed seal conservation. In 2023, I published my first coffee table book: "New Zealand, bird archipelago" (text and images, in French).
Outside of photography, I am particularly fond of fantasy worlds, especially in books and video games. Metal music is also dear to my heart, I actually started as a concert photographer before veering towards nature and wildlife! Do you want to see more in your social feeds? Lucky you, you can follow me on Facebook! More of an Instagram geek? I'm in the place as well :D The best to keep up with the latest news, though, is to subscribe to my newsletter. Welcome :-)
